We offer Live Scan Fingerprinting using the most advanced equipment and software currently on the market. Live scan fingerprinting is the process of capturing fingerprints electronically using a computer and a scanner. It is convenient, fast, accurate and has a very low (1%) rejection rate. This digital technology replaces the "ink roll method" which required the use of ink and cards. This method was messy and led to poor fingerprint image quality and rejections. Live Scan provides the fingerprint technician with the opportunity to retake a print several times to ensure they are capturing the best image quality possible. We offer this service both at our facility as well as our Mobile Services where we bring our equipment and services businesses. Our experienced technicians will assist applicants with the required paperwork which needs to be processed for our live scan fingerprinting. We will also explain in detail what is required by the applicant in order to retrieve the results from the background check as quickly as possible. After correctly inputting the correct personal applicant data, scanning and then processing fingerprints electronically your application will be submitted in seconds!
How much is it?
We charge a very reasonable $25 fingerprint rolling fee for each Live Scan and we are also required to collect and forward the applicable State and/or FBI fees based on the type of Live Scan requested if it does not have a billing number. You can find the fees associated with your application with the instructions it comes with.
If you are still unsure of what fees are associated with your application please feel free to give us a call at (951) 393-0018 and we can give you the total cost for your specific live scan request. Please note that the Requesting Agencies’ FORM BCII 8016, “Request for Live Scan Service” ORI NUMBER, LEVEL OF SERVICES, & BILLING NUMBER (if applicable) will determine the exact services and fees required.
Some requesting agencies will have billing accounts with the California Department of Justice in which the Applicants are only required to pay for our $25 Live Scan Fingerprint Rolling Fee. This will be referenced on the Live Scan Form BCII 8016 normally titled “Billing Number” or “Agency Billing Number” and is 6 digits in length, not the mailing number, ORI, or OCA number. It has to be a billing number located above or below where you write or input your driver license number. PLEASE HAVE THIS INFORMATION BEFORE CALLING.
What is Live Scan Fingerprinting?
Live Scan fingerprinting is the technique and technology used to capture fingerprints electronically. It replaces the more traditional method of ink and paper. The fingerprints are electronically transmitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for a criminal record check. A response is then sent to the agency requesting the Live Scan. If required the DOJ forwards the Live Scan fingerprints to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Through Live Scan fingerprinting background clearances can be processed within a few days instead of weeks it requires for traditional fingerprinting.
Live Scan fingerprinting is used to reveal criminal history information for identification, employment and licensing purposes by matching fingerprints and other identifying information to existing data files for an individual.
How Does The Process Work?
The agency or employer requesting the Live Scan fingerprint will provide the applicant with the Request for Live Scan Form. At the Live Scan location a trained and certified technician will scan your fingerprints with a Live Scan fingerprint scanner. The scanning process takes around 5 to 10 minutes. Immediately following the fingerprints are electronically transmitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for background processing. All appropriate fees will be collected from the applicant by the technician. Then Live Scan Technician will give you two (2) copies of the Live Scan Request Form after the prints are taken. Return one (1) of those copies to the agency that has requested the Live Scan. The other copy is for your records.
How Long Does It Take To Get My Live Scan Results?
The Department of Justice (DOJ) usually processes Live Scan fingerprinting within minutes. Delays may occur. For any significant delays the DOJ will contact the requesting agency. The results are either emailed or sent to the requesting agency listed on the Request for Live Scan Service Form. Once the Live Scan process has been completed, please contact the agency handling your employment or licensing with all inquiries.
Once I have my fingerprints taken will they always be on file with the Government?
No. Once your fingerprint record has been processed and your suitability for certification, licensing, employment and/or volunteerism have been reported to your Referring Agency, your fingerprint record is deleted. The only civilian fingerprint records kept are those belonging to convicted felons.
If I’ve already had Live Scan fingerprints taken and I have changed jobs, do I need to be fingerprinted again?
Yes, for two reasons. One, by law, licensing agencies, organizations and/or companies may not share applicant background information; it’s against your right to privacy. Two, once your background information is sent to the Referring Agency, the Department of Justice deletes your fingerprint record – - there is no record to “share” with your new employer/licensing agency.
